February 11, 2013

In lieu of a picture today (since I kind of forgot to take one...oops!), I am going to take today's post in a bit of a different direction.

---

I'm a bit of a worrier, and I'll be the first to admit it. I've gotten slightly better over the last year or so but I still have things to work on. So I had to smile when I sat down tonight to do my homework for the small group Bible study I'm part of and found the chapter to be titled "Scared," and essentially dealing with conquering fears and worries, and learning to more fully trust God (since He is in control, after all!).

Anyway, this brought to mind a couple quotes I had written down in my notebook at one time or another, so I thought I'd share them. Hopefully they will be an encouragement to you.

"Worry and fretting and obsessing about the future - even if it is a pseudo-holy worry that attempts to discern the will of God - will not add one single hour to your life, and it certainly will not add any happiness or holiness, either."
- Kevin DeYoung, Just Do Something

"Worry implies that we don't quite trust that God is big enough, powerful enough, or loving enough to take care of what's happening in our lives. Stress says that the things we are involved in are important enough to merit our impatience, our lack of grace toward others, or our tight grip of control. These behaviors communicate it's okay to sin...they reek of arrogance."
- Francis Chan, Crazy Love

If you, too, are a worrier, hopefully these quotes can help put things in perspective. And remember, "which of you, by being anxious, can add a single hour to his span of life?" (Matthew 6:27 ESV)

Here's to a lovely, worry-free week!

February 10, 2013

The prompt for February 10 was "three o'clock." Unfortunately I failed to snap a photo of what I was doing at 3:00 as I was sound asleep. Indeed, I was right in the midst of my delightful Sunday afternoon nap.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Guilty pleasures. I'm not quite sure if ballroom dancing is technically a "guilty pleasure" but it can be fun. I went to a Valentine Ball last night and really like this picture of my dear friend S and her new husband dancing. They have been married for just over a month. :)

And consider yourself lucky. In the spirit of "guilty pleasures," I was planning to give you a list of some of my "guilty pleasure" songs. You know, songs that I love to hate, but yet crank up when they come on the radio? But, alas, I decided it is probably better to keep that list in my head, to myself. :)

My absolute favorite fuzzy blanket (from Costco...get one!) and my favorite beanbag throw-pillow. Which is in desperate need of being replaced but I just haven't found one good enough to replace it yet!

Also, a Happy Birthday shout-out to my not-so-little brother! :)

Josh Groban (All That Echoes) Review

We interrupt the daily photo posts with a plug for what I believe is going to end up being one of my favorite new albums of 2013. Because you know that this blog wouldn't be "mine" without a few plugs for some of my favorite songs and artists.

Let me start with some background.

I've been a Josh Groban fan for several years. Ever since I first heard Josh's velvety voice, I was hooked. His Christmas album remains one of my favorites. And he has done some renditions of songs that are next to none. I would absolutely love to see him live in concert someday.

And now Josh has done it again, with the release of his sixth (yes, sixth!) album. What I believe may be his best album yet. From the opening notes of "Brave" to the final song, "I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)", the album grabs you with every note.

The album is available for streaming on Spotify and is also on sale for $5.99 on AmazonMP3.

I love scented stuff. Specifically, Bath & Body Works stuff.
Disclaimer: The purple bubble bath, although Lavender scented, is not the original Bath & Body Works bubble bath....I just re-use the bottle. The Winter Candy Apple on the other hand? Totally genuine.

"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." - Lamentations 3:22 - 23 ESV

Cody. My almost-13-year-old yellow Lab. Eagerly expecting treats. He figures if he lies there near the treat bucket they just might end up in his mouth.

Mango. And one of the best mangos I ever did eat.

Disclaimer: This photo was taken on February 1, not February 2. but I figured I could get away with posting it anyway as I ate this mango's cousin on February 2. I just didn't get a picture of it. :)
